Gervais Appave
is the Special Policy Adviser to the Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

Mr. Appave’s professional responsibilities deal with the search for effective strategies and policies for the management of human mobility at regional and global levels, with special emphasis on the development of multilateral, cooperative approaches. He founded the Migration Policy, Research and Communication Department at IOM 2001 until 2006 and was consultant author on international migration for the Encyclopaedia Britannica’s

Year Book during that time. Mr. Appave has served as a senior public servant and diplomat in a wide range of capacities both in Australia and abroad, notably in Bangkok and Geneva. Mr. Appave holds a BA (Hons) from the University of Sydney.

Shams Asadi
is the Vice-Independent Officer for Occupational Health and Safety of

Bild entfernt. the City of Vienna. The Vienna Anti-Discrimination Office and its team is also co-coordinated by the Independent Officer. Counselling and advice for disadvantaged individuals or groups who are subject to discrimination, mediations, networking, expert assessment and research studies are some of the main duties of this office. Ms Asadi was head of the unit "Special & International Projects" in the Municipal Department for Urban

Development and Urban Planning in Vienna. Urban economy, international co-operations with a focus on urban development as well Diversity & Planning were the application areas of this unit. She chaired the EUROCITIES Working Group “Economic Migration” in the past years and was involved in many research studies and international projects on Migration, Gender Mainstreaming and Diversity.

 

Ibrahim Awad
has been serving as the Director of the International Migration Programme at the International Labour Organisation (ILO) in Geneva,

Bild entfernt. since July 2005. Previously, he was the Director of the ILO Subregional Office for North Africa based in Cairo. He has worked with the International Migration programme in the 1990s. Before joining the ILO, Dr. Awad held senior positions in several regional and United Nations organizations in Latin America, Europe, the Middle East and Africa. He taught at the American University in Cairo (AUC). Mr. Awad has carried

out wide-ranging research and published extensively on international labour migration, political economy, international relations, international organization, development, employment, human and labour rights and regional integration.

 

 

Jeanne Batalova
is a policy analyst at the Migration Policy Institute. Her areas of

Bild entfernt. expertise include impacts of immigrants on society and labor markets; integration of immigrant children and elderly immigrants; and the policies and practices regulating immigration of highly skilled workers and foreign students. Dr. Batalova has among other publications co-authored research on "brain waste" of college-educated immigrants as well as her book, “Skilled Immigrant

and  Native Workers in the United States” published in 2006. She earned her PhD in Sociology, with a specialization in demography, from University of California-Irvine.

Herbert Brücker
is Professor of Economics at the University of Bamberg and Head

Herbert Brücker received his PhD from the University of Frankfurt a.M. and his Habilitation from the Technical University in Berlin. His research interests cover international labour migration, the economics of brain drain and European integration.

 

Among other, he has coordinated comprehensive studies on the labour market effects of the EU’s Eastern enlargement on behalf of the European Commission. His research findings have been published in the Scandinavian Journal of Economics, Journal of Comparative Economics und Economic Policy.

Carola Burkert
is head of the working group “migration and integration” at the Institute of Employment Research (IAB) since March

She studied social sciences in Nuremberg and Bath (UK) and proceeded to do her doctorate at the Chair of Statistics and Empirical Economics at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. Dr. Burkert was staff of the German Federal Agency for Recognition of Foreign Refugees (economic aspects of migration) from 2002 to 2004 and a researcher on the

Council of Experts on Immigration and Integration from 2003 to 2004.

Ryszard Cholewinski
is a Senior Migration Policy and Research Specialist in the Migration Policy and Research Department of the International Organization

Prior to joining IOM in September 2005, he read Law at the University of Leicester, further schooled in Canada and served as a consultant at the Council of Europe, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and UNESCO, as well as a number of non-governmental organizations. Dr. Cholewinski is Co-Editor-in-Chief of World Migration 2008: Managing Labour Mobility in the Evolving Global Economy. He has published

widely on international and European migration law and policy, one of his most recent publications being: International Migration Law: Developing Paradigms and Key Challenges (Asser Press, 2007).

Anne Britt Djuve
is a Senior Researcher at Fafo, a Norwegian multidisciplinary foundation, in the research group on labour market integration of

She is an appointed expert on the Welfare and Migration Committee and a member on the international expert panel of the Swedish IMER Programme. Ms. Djuve has been working for Fafo since 1992 and focused on integration policies of immigrants and refugees in Scandinavia into society and the Norwegian labour market. She has published and co-authored widely on integration,

labour issues and ethnic diversity. Her most recent publications being: Nordic experiences with labour market programmes for immigrants (2008) and Data collection when the target group is ethnically heterogeneous (2009).

Ralf Fücks
is the president of the Heinrich-Böll-Foundation since 1996. In 1985 he was elected to the state parliament of Bremen.

The primary focus of his work is on sustainable development, reshaping the welfare state, migration and integration, the future of European integration, and international politics. In 2000 he was appointed as a member of the

non-partisan Commission on Migration of the Federal Government. Ralf Fücks is a regular contributor to numerous newspapers and political periodicals and co-author to numerous books. He studied social sciences, economics, and political science in Heidelberg and Bremen and was active in the student movements.

Jane Hardy
is Professor of Political Economy in the Business School at the University of Hertfordshire. She has written and published widely on

Her recent research has focused on Polish migrant workers in the UK. Jane led a project funded by the British Economic and Social Research Council on migration and the cross border collaboration of British and Polish trade unions.

Patrick Hart
is director of British Council Germany since September 2009. He obtained his degrees in Geography from the Universities

Dr. Hart joined British Council in 1989 and was posted in the Far East - to China, Korea and latterly opening up a new directorate in Taiwan as Country Director. Returning to the UK in 2000 he served as Deputy Director of the Council's Corporate IT Department for five years, where he was responsible for setting up a global IT support service.

Since 2005 he was Deputy Director of the Council's operation Germany where his responsibilities were wide-ranging and included IT, personnel, finance, examinations and science, especially work in climate change.
 

Egbert Holthuis
is Deputy Head of Unit in the Employment Policy Unit. He has the Dutch nationality and has Masters degrees in Business

Administration and Geography.  Before joining the European Commission in 1993 he worked respectively in the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Dutch Organisation for Applied Scientific Research TNO. Mr. Holthuis started his career for the European Commission working in the Commission's Delegation in Tchad as an economic counsellor. In DG Enterprise he worked respectively in the Steel and Chemicals Unit. Upon

joining DG Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities in 2004 he was involved in monitoring employment and social situation of the European Union as well as in coordinating and monitoring national employment policies in the context of the Lisbon and the European Employment strategy (eg with a special focus on migration and mobility).

Elmar Hönekopp
is an economist and freelance researcher. He was a senior researcher (until January 2008) at the Institute for Employment

Hönkopp´s main fields of expertise are EU Eastern enlargement and its effects on employment and labour markets, migration and mobility of highly qualified workers (European context), foreign direct investment and its effects on labour market

and employment (Central/Eastern Europe and Western Europe), long-term labour demand and immigrants on the German labour market. Mr. Hönekopp has published and co-authored extensively. One of his most recent publications are: Guest Worker Programs and Circular Migration: What Works? (GMF Immigration Paper Series 09).

Martin Kahanec
is Senior Research Associate, Deputy Program Director "Migration", leader of the research sub-area EU Enlargement

Since January 2010 he holds an Assistant Professor position at the Central European University Budapest, Hungary. Dr. Kahanec is member of several professional associations (AEA, ESPE, EALE, EEA) and a founding member of the Slovak Economic Association. His main interests of research are Labour and Population Economics,

Ethnicity, and Migration. Mr Kahanec has published in refered journals, has a chapter in the Oxford Handbook of Economic Inequality (OUP), and he has edited scientific volumes and a journal special issue.

Thomas Liebig
is Administrator in the International Migration Division of the Directorate for Employment, Labour and Social Affairs at the

Bild entfernt. Organisation for Co-operation and Development (OECD). Since 2004 he has been in charge of the OECD country reviews on the labour market integration of immigrants and their children. Dr. Liebig's main field of research is on migration and integration policies wherein he has published extensively. He studied Economics and International Relations in St. Gallen and Barcelona and worked as a Research Associate in the Institute for Labour Economics and Labour Law where he wrote his dissertation on immigration

policies for the highly-skilled in Germany and Switzerland.

Hans Dietrich von Loeffelholz
is working as chief economist at the German Federal Office for Migration and Refugees. Dr. Loeffelholz is in charge of the economic

After finishing his degree and PhD in economics. He worked in leading positions for the Rhine-Westfalian Institute for Research on Economics (RWI) in Essen. Jan Niessen
is director of the Brussels based Migration Policy Group, an independent policy agency. His professional activities include

book series on migration and law; member of the Board of Directors of the Journal of International Migration and Integration and co-editor of the European Anti-discrimination Law Review and advises public and private sector organisations on international migration, integration, anti-discrimination and diversity.

Roderick Parkes
is head of the Brussels Office of the German Institute for International

Bernhard Rohleder
was appointed as BITKOM’s director general shortly after its 1999 inception, a position that he holds to this day. Dr. Rohleder’s professional career began with positions at ZF Friedrichshafen GmbH

Howard Rosen

Argentina Szabados
is the newly appointed Chief of Mission at the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Germany since January 2010.

She was the Regional Representative of the IOM in Budapest, Hungary with overall regional responsibilities for coordinating migration policies, strategies, programmes and administrative issues for fourteen IOM missions in Central and South Eastern Europe. Before her career at IOM Mrs. Szabados worked for the World Council of Churches (WCC) leading Emergency Programs in Central and Eastern Europe (including the war

in former Yugoslavia) and Central Asia between 1989 and 1998. She was a founding member of the European Churches Working Group on Asylum and Migration (ECWGAR). Argentina Szabados has been working in migration and the humanitarian field for the past 20 years. Her work has been acknowledged by a series of national and international awards, and published numerously. She has been lecturing at a wide range of universities world wide and is an active member of academic forums on migration related issues.

Kamuran Sezer
is Head and founder of Futureorg, thInstitute for applied Future- and Organisation Research. The institute is a private-enterprise thinktank

Klaus F. Zimmermann
is Director of the Institute for the Study of Labour (IZA) in Bonn since

Prof. Dr. Zimmermann’s special field of interest and expertise are labor economics, population economics, migration, industrial organization and econometrics. He is an economic advisor to the prime Minister of North Rhine Westphalia since 2008. Klaus F. Zimmermann holds professorships at the University of Bonn, Peking, FU Berlin
